ATTENTION MOTORCYCLISTS!!
WANT TO KNOW WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES?
Did you know that you pay
$1 extra on your motorcycle registration each year? Did you know that
that money now goes into a Motorcycle Safety Fund (MSF)? Did you know
that the establishment of this “dedicated fund” and “ensuring
proper usage” of the monies (approx $80,000 yearly) has ONLY come
about because you have “lobbyists” from Motorcycle Rights
Organizations (MRO’s) such as ABATE and MMA of Arizona and the Arizona
Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs (ACMC) dedicated to making it happen?
Three years ago the lobbyists
ran a bill make the MSF a “dedicated” fund whos monies would
only be used to provide Motorcycle Awareness. $80,000 was appropriated
for the MSF for Fiscal Year 2003-2004. Two years ago the lobbyists ran
a bill which put the fund under the administration of the Governors Office
of Highway Safety (GOHS) and created a 5 person, Governor appointed, State
Motorcycle Safety Advisory Council (SMSAC). The sole purpose of the SMSAC
is to recommend ways to improve motorcycling in the state of Arizona and
advise the GOHS on how our money is to be spent.
!!!!!
WE WOULD LIKE TO ANNOUNCE OUR FIRST YEAR OF SUCCESS !!!!!
The $80,000 appropriated for
RY03-04 was spent in the following manner:
- $50,000 on a motorcycle awareness campaign using 12’x24’
billboards. The artwork was designed by the lobbyists, agreed upon by
the SMSAC and approved by the GOHS. There will be 35 of these billboards
up by 7/29/04. The vendor we are using, who has gone out of their way
to accommodate us, is Viacom. A list of the exact addresses for the 35
locations is listed below.
- $3,100 was used to reimburse ABATE of Arizona for items needed to provide
the Motorcycle Awareness Program (MAP) to 4,000 students in driver ed
classes throughout the High Schools in Arizona. This program is coordinated
by the State Safety Officer for ABATE of Arizona and desperately needs
your help. If you are available during the daytime hours and would like
to get involved, please contact Bobbi Hartmann at bobbij2@earthlink.net
or 602-243-9479. All you need is a desire to educate drivers, new and
old, on how to ‘share the road with motorcycles.”
- $1,040 was used to reimburse ABATE and MMA of Arizona for expenses incurred
for the “Motorcycle Awareness Event” held on May 2, 2004 at
Spectrum Mall. Each year the MRO’s hold an awareness day in the
mall, in order to “educate” the general motoring public about
“sharing the road with motorcycles.” It includes a people’s
choice bike show, bikes available for kids to sit on and get a Polaroid
picture taken, free LOOK OUT FOR MOTORCYCLE T-Shirts, and a Puppeteer
Show that is geared toward the same. Each child is also given free bumper
stickers, and motorcycle safety badges and asked to LOOK OUT FOR MOTORCYCLES
when riding with their parents.
- $3,500 was granted to the Arizona Drill Team to provide supplies necessary
for the free riders ed classes they provide.
- $8,000 was granted to the Gold Wing Riders to provide supplies necessary
for the free riders ed classes they provide
- $6,000 (approx) was spent on GOHS LOOK Out For Motorcycle Stock Items
such as Bumper Stickers, Key Chains, Badges, Posters and 2x4 Trifolds.
These items are to be available to anyone presenting a “motorcycle
awareness” event or campaign.
- $8,000 makes up the 10% given to the GOHS to administer our fund. This
includes the Directors attendance at the SMSAC meetings and any bidding
processes or contracts that need to be drawn.
So you can clearly see that
due to the efforts of your lobbyists, your $1 is now being properly spent.
This came after many years of effort and ad-hoc council meetings, only
to find that our money was going into the general fund and being spent
on who knows what!
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME AND THE
MEASLY $20 a year and JOIN A MRO!!!
WE NEED YOU TO STAND WITH US AND FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS!!!
WE NEED INCREASED MEMBERSHIP TO SHOW OUR STRENGTH AND HAVE A BIGGER VOICE

Did You Know that every year,
at least one legislator entertains the idea of running a bill to mandate
helmets in the state of Arizona?
Did You Know that Arizona is the ONLY state in the U.S. that requires
yearly emissions on motorcycles? Your lobbyists are working hard to eliminate
emissions.
Did You Know that your lobbyists attend city council meetings on purposed
noise ordinances?
Did You Know that a Motorcycle Awareness Program was being taught in Arizona?
SO – Don’t just
stand there, JOIN those who are readily Legislating for your Rights and
Educating for your Safety. IF you want the right to continue to ride free,
then you need to JOIN forces with those of us that are making that happen
for Arizona Riders like you. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
