| A Ride to a Nice Romantic Bed and Breakfast ... |
| This
ride is actually more than a ride. It is a great “pick me up”
for all those couples out there. Yeah, Christmas is past, you got those
January blues and the little woman is restless. The answer: a ride to a
nice romantic bed and breakfast! This ride starts in Mesa or Phoenix and
heads out US 60 east to Florence Junction. Now turn that bad puppy south
on State Hwy. 79 for 15 miles into Florence. Just keep heading south on
Hwy.79 for another 42 miles on what is called the “Pinal Pioneer parkway”.
This is pleasant, if not spectacular riding, and is at a fairly low elevation,
so this is an excellent ride for this time of year. Part way down the parkway
you will come to the Tom Mix Monument on the right, there is a sign. I generally
stop here and stretch my legs and lament the passing of the cowboy. For
those of you who don’t know, Tom Mix was an early cowboy actor who
died in a car accident near this site. To put this in perspective, Tom Mix
was actually one of the pallbearers for, none other than Wyatt Earp! From here keep rolling south through some great Sonoran desert until you come to a stop sign at Oracle Junction. Here swing right and continue the approximately 20 miles down State Hwy. 77. This will curve west down in Tucson and join up with Interstate 10 at mile marker 255. Now it is a short jaunt down 10 to the intersection with Interstate 19 south. Take 19 south (there may be some construction here, so watch) approximately 23 miles to Exit 63. This will be Continental road, also known as White House Road. Follow this for 7-8 miles and you take a right onto Madera Canyon Road. This takes you up to our destination, which is Madera Canyon. Madera is one of the prettiest places in Arizona. Located in the rugged Santa Rita mountains, it is one of my favorite spots to visit. They do get a little snow once in a while so check the weather before you go, but even on a bike, most of the time, there is no problem getting here. Our stopping point is the beautiful bed and breakfast known as the Chuparosa Inn. http://www.chuparosainn.com/ Again, one of my favorites. Relaxed, great surroundings, excellent food, the birds singing. Trust me guys, this one will earn you lots of points on the romance-ometer. I recommend the Cowboy room. It is facing creekside and is a wonderful room. Please be sure to make advance reservations, of course. (Just to put everyone’s mind at ease, no, I am not on the payroll of the Inn, I just like the place.) So, got the ho-hum blues? Grab that woman, fire up the sled, and take a soothing ride to a great B&B and put a little fire in that relationship! Have a great Valentine’s day! |
