Where to ride your Motorcycle to in Arizona ...

Southern Arizona

Picture of a mission in Southern ArizonaHeading south you'll find a very rich historical community to say the least.. In Tucson, one can catch the Cochise County Trail, an area comprised of 200 miles of area that our forbearers, settlers, Indians and gunfighters and Calvary considered home. To "hop on the trail" get on HWY 80 in Tucson and so south to Tombstone, Bisbee and Douglas and then north on 666 to Chiricahua National Monument This takes you over on the Southeast side of the state. The whole area is filled with rich history of the wild, wild, west. Tombstone is famous for the "Gunfight at the OK Corral" and reenactments of former western life provide great entertainment. Helldorado Days is a popular fall weekend event for everyone. Bisbee is a mining town, check out the Lavender Pit Mine, famous underground Queen Mine, and see the Brewery Gulch and the Copper Queen Hotel. Douglas and vicinity is home to Skeleton Canyon where Geronimo surrendered in 1886 and also The Gadsden Hotel. S.A.H.R holds a great weekend event here in the early summer. It's a must see and do. All these places I've just mentioned have very biker friendly bars, restaurants and establishments that I know you'll like.

Also just outside Tucson is the Saguaro National Park, on both sides of the city. I prefer the east side myself. In May the Saguaros bloom a beautiful waxy white flower at night (so its best to see them in the morning), their crown on the top of their majestic arms. Some as old as when Lincoln was President, and they must be at least 75 years old before they produce an arm. I always feel they are suspended in animation when I look at them, and when I glance away, they continue with their silent desert opera. It truly is fun to ride a motorcycle and become part of the desert. On the west side of town also is the San Xavier del Bac Mission, referred to as the "White Dove of the Desert." Absolutely beautiful. Built in 1793 it has been restored to its original Spanish splendor. Another fun area is the Old Tucson movie playground. Many a western has been filmed here and is fun for adults and kids. A little further west is the Kitt Peak National Observatory.
On the far Southeastern side of the state is Wilcox and Dos Cabezas, just off 1 10, home to Rex Allen, different movie sets like Red Rock Country, Dalton and others. These areas are also rich in history and part of our heritage. Dos Cabezas, RT 186, 15 miles SE of Wilcox, maintains a historical site with a museum and historian. Also Muddy Minds is a place you must see ask for Donald 520-384-3006. A great place for a wandering traveler to find rest and peace of mind with biker friendly people. Also Fort Bowie National Historical Site is in the area. Check out the history of the Calvary and the Indians.

Over on the Southwest side of the state is Yuma. On the border of Mexico and Arizona and rich in farmland and livestock. Fort Yuma, one of the oldest military posts in AZ currently houses the Quechan Indian Museum. Also the Yuma Territorial Prison state park. Yuma is most famous for its Sahara style sand dunes.

Have a great time ... Kimmy
